How BARACLUDE (entecavir) can help

BARACLUDE® (entecavir) is a prescription medicine used to treat chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) in adults who have active virus and liver damage.

  • Currently there is no cure for HBV. BARACLUDE will not cure HBV
  • BARACLUDE may:
    • lower the amount of HBV in the body
    • lower the ability of HBV to multiply and infect new liver cells
    • improve the condition of your liver
  • It is not known whether BARACLUDE will reduce the chances of getting liver cancer or liver damage (cirrhosis), which may be caused by chronic HBV infection
  • It is not known if BARACLUDE is safe and effective for use in children

BARACLUDE does not stop you from spreading the hepatitis B virus (HBV) to others by sex, sharing needles, or being exposed to your blood. BARACLUDE works to fight the hepatitis B virus and may reduce the amount of virus in the blood, which may improve the condition of your liver.

The hepatitis B virus (HBV) attacks the cells of your liver. If you have chronic (or long-term) hepatitis B, the virus can continue to multiply in your body and can lead to severe liver damage in some people.

BARACLUDE works to fight the hepatitis B virus (HBV) and may reduce the amount of HBV in the body, which may improve the condition of your liver.

BARACLUDE may:
  • Lower your hepatitis B viral levels to undetectable
Your viral levels tell how much hepatitis B virus is in your blood. If the amount is low enough, it's called "undetectable."
  • Reduce the damage done to your liver
BARACLUDE may slow the amount of damage chronic infection with hepatitis B virus does to your liver. This may improve the condition of your liver.

It is not known whether BARACLUDE will reduce your chances of getting liver cancer or liver damage (cirrhosis), which may be caused by chronic HBV infection.

Individual results may vary. While taking BARACLUDE, stay under your doctor's care. Talk to your doctor if you have questions about BARACLUDE or are feeling ill.
